The Quarterfinals of the AFCON open on the evening of Friday 2 February, with Nigeria facing Angola at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles impressively downed Cameroon 2-0 in the Round of 16 – thanks to a brace from Ademola Lookman – while the Palancas Negras were even more emphatic in their 3-0 destruction of Namibia, courtesy of goals from Gelson Dala (two) and Mabululu.

“Angola are a good team. We'll analyse them and prepare,” said Lookman. “The further you go, the tougher it gets so we'll take it game by game.”

Angola’s Dala is hoping to continue the form which has seen him net four times in this AFCON: “Scoring of goals here is making me happy and I would love to continue in scoring goals in this tournament and getting victories as well.”

Friday’s late kick-off comes from the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, with DR Congo (who stunned Egypt via penalties in the previous round) taking on Guinea (who edged Equatorial Guinea 1-0 thanks to a late, late strike from Mohamed Bayo).

“We're already going to rest well and then we'll take it match after match. All this without forgetting that DR Congo won a continental title in Cote d'Ivoire [African Nations Championship, CHAN, in 2009),” said Leopards goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi. "Maybe that's a sign.”

The Syli Nationale’s Ibrahim Diakite feels they are playing for more than just a sporting reason: “This victory [reaching the Quarterfinals] is historic, no one has managed to do that in history. This victory is for the people who have suffered for a long time.”
