Round 18 of the 2023-24 Premier League season opens on Thursday 21 December – with the latest edition of the rivalry between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion (22:00) – while the pick of the matches is the meeting of Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield on the evening of Saturday 23 December (19:30).

The final round of Serie A action for 2023 will be played across 22 and 23 December, headlined by the ‘Derby Del Sole’ between Roma and Napoli from the Stadio Olimpico late on the evening of Saturday 23 December (21:45).

Roma have made a habit of making things hard for themselves, as expressed by midfielder Leandro Paredes: “It was very important for us. It seems that if we don’t suffer, it doesn’t count! There is always hunger, unfortunately we tend to reach the final stages suffering and under pressure. We have many aspects that need improvement and we’re working on them.”

The Premier League continues on ‘Boxing Day’, December 26, with the start of Round 19, which features an impressive Aston Villa looking to continue their great form when they face ailing giants Manchester United at Old Trafford (22:00).

The Red Devils surely look on in envy at the rise the Villans have enjoyed under Unai Emery – though the Spanish manager is urging his team to continue inputting the discipline and processes that have served them so well thus far.

“Try to be humble and accept everything to improve, everything the coaches are trying to improve with you,” said Emery.  “Really the players here I am very proud of them. It's not 100 per cent but it's clear my idea and my commitment here of how we can improve and how I want the players to take the behaviour into the commitment they want to set. Some players are doing it easier than others but every player is trying to set in the same way.”

Wednesday 27 December also features heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester City taking on Crystal Palace at home (21:30) and Everton away (22:15) respectively.

In the WWE Universe, the weekly NXT, SmackDown and Raw shows on Wednesday 20 December, Saturday 23 December and Tuesday 26 December (all 03:00) will continue to bring viewers the best bone-crunching action in the squared circle... and outside of it!

The Zambian Super League will also take centre stage, with four matches running from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 December: Kabwe Warriors v MUZA (22 December, 15:00), Green Buffaloes v Trident (23 December, 13:00), Zanaco v Nkana (23 December, 15:00) and Red Arrows v Mutondo Stars (24 December, 15:00).
