La Liga preview, 26-29 April 2024

The season is getting closer to its conclusion and the La Liga is coming in hot with Matchday 33. Tune in with GOtv and get a taste of the highest level of football from Spain to avoid missing out on the entertainment that awaits!

Following their sensational late win over Barcelona in El Clasico, Real Madrid will now turn their attention to their clash against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium on Saturday evening, and it promises to be a session jam-packed with an attacking display from both teams.

The two Africans on Sociedad’s books will be the centre of attention in this one, as Nigeria’s Umar Sadiq looks to break out of his seemingly inconsistent form and Mali’s Hamari Traore will be back to produce a sensational full-back performance. Sadiq has scored three goals in the league this season, which is not exactly the best return for a striker, but injuries have caused him some trouble.

The striker pulled out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year and caused confusion when he still featured for La Real regardless. Jose Peseiro, who was Nigeria’s head coach at the time stated that he was also “confused” by it. Do you think he really was injured or did he just want to prove himself in his club’s set up?

Earlier on Saturday, Atletico Madrid will take on Athletic Bilbao as the two teams are neck and neck for a UEFA Champions League finish. Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams is a key player for Bilbao as he’s scored nine goals and provided three assists in the league this season. The club’s Sporting Director Mikel Gonzalez went as far as saying that Williams is the perfect example of hard work.

The player has been instrumental in also helping his brother Nico adjust to the team. “Inaki is helping Nico a lot in everything. Nico is a very good player but he is very young and you can imagine a lot of noise around him with clubs, with agents but Inaki is the best example of hard work,” said Gonzalez. “They feel very happy here in Bilbao. They believe in the project. They are very happy with the team, with the coach, with everything” he added.

The round of fixtures begin on Friday, when Almeria play against Getafe. Almeria has three African players in their books, namely Ghana’s Idrissu Baba, Guinea-Bissau’s Marciano Sanca and Senegal’s Dion Lopy. With GOtv, you’ll be able to see the continent’s stars in action. Will they be in form for the match? You’ll have to find out.

The round closes on Monday as Girona will go up against Las Palmas. But on Sunday, GOtv viewers will be in for a treat with the Seville Derby, featuring Real Betis and Sevilla at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
